Teen Community Service Opportunities– Community service can be required when participating in certain clubs, like the National Honor Society. It also looks great on college applications and job resumes. North Babylon teens( grades 6-12) only. Students must have a current North Babylon Library card to receive credit for service. Below are some upcoming opportunities to earn community service credit at the Library: Teens can register online through our calendar, by phone or in person.
Food Pantry Donations CSC– Middle and High School students can earn community service hours by bringing in donations for our donation boxes by our lobby. Sealed non-expired items such as: canned or boxed non-perishable foods.
4 items = 1 hour of community service credit(CSC)
Maximum 2 hours/month. Please bring items to Reference Desk for credit.
Take Home Community Service Bags CSC– Check out our Take-Home Community Service Bags and bring them home. Use the watercolors inside to make 4 bookmarks. Cut out the bookmarks with scissors and then return them and the bag to the Reference desk to earn one hour of community service credit. A maximum of one hour per student will be accepted each month

Chess Buddies CSC– Tuesdays, September 8 and 29 and October 6 and 20, 6:00-7:30 PM-Help younger children improve their chess skills by playing games with them. This program will earn teens 1.5 hours of community service credit.
Bookmark Bonanza CSC– Wednesday, September 23, 6:00-7:00 PM- Design and create unique bookmarks to share with fellow library patrons. This program will earn teens 1 hour of community service credit.
Sexual Harassment Made Simple CSC– Wednesday, September 30, 6:00-6:45 PM- In this interactive workshop, students will practice identifying the difference between flirting and harassment through real-life age-appropriate scenarios. 1 hour of community service credit.
Kindness Letter Writing CSC– Wednesday, October 7, 6:00-7:00 PM- Come in and write support letters for Kidney Foundation patients and a young patient from the Marty Lyons Foundation. This program will earn teens 1 hour of community service credit.
Adopt Me! Dog Bandanas & Leash Slides CSC– Saturday, October 17, 2:00-3:00 PM- Stencil lettering onto a bandana and leash slide to help animals find their forever homes. The items made will be donated to a local animal adoption organization. This program will earn teens 1 hour of community service credit.
